I’ve decided to host an event and raise funds to help WWF-Canada protect Watersheds.
The event is a 1,300 km sailing and rowing trip along Lake Ontario, through the Trent-Severn Watershed, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie, alongside the Welland Canal, and back home to Grimsby, on Lake Ontario!
While I am doing my part, I am counting on you to help me reach my fundraising goal. I would like to suggest that you consider sponsoring me for 1 cent/km. - that's $13 total - or multiple cents/km. if you're really feeling generous! But here's the best part - I am going to match your funding! (to a limit of $8,000). The boat is being built (a 16' long light-weight sleek wooden skiff) and the plan was to set out by mid to late June (delayed by pandemic restrictions to mid to late July), finishing before the end of August (September), all subject to the issue of safety and the state of the pandemic. Please note the change of plans/timing indicated in the update below.
You can follow the progress of my plans and the "Tour" itself on https://oldmaninaboattour.ca/
Please donate to my WWF page.
Thank you for supporting my fundraiser and our planet!
Update for January 24, 2024
A long overdue update! Unfortunately, events of last year have necessitated a major change of plans. In September I became very sick with heart and auto-immune issues both of which I am slowly recovering from. I am working sporadically on finishing the Greta T but now plan to row the distance, but not the trip, by rowing along the south shore of Lake Ontario (the beach is 50 yards from my house) in a modified canoe, several days a week as weather permits, 20 - 30 kms. at a time. In the meantime I'll be plugging away at the boat in the hope I will be able to sail some of these distances. Realistically, with my health issues, the camping element of the trip is not on the cards. For the latest update on the progress of the boat please check out: https://oldmaninaboattour.ca/
